What's with all these people saying they'd rather be voted out than play? Funny enough, I was just thinking how I know exactly what both Rat and Frog are talking about actually. With Frog, he fought tooth and nail all game, finally saw his name come up, and then is ready to exhale... relax, and have that anxiety lift... settle into the jury. Instead he finds he's still in the game, but knows even if he gets back into the main event, there's not much he can do. And yet... and yet, to finish 11th instead of 8th? No! He must keep fighting! Same for Rat, it's scary as hell to walk into an FTC not knowing what the jury has in store for you. Importantly, neither of these people is quitting or asking to be voted out here. They're just expressing the conflicting feelings around these things, the peace and rest that comes with loss on the one side, versus the struggle and anxiety that comes with fighting forward on the other.

I dislike the Edge existing postmerge because it messes up those later placements. I know there isn't any prize for 7th over 10th other than the ELO difference, but it just feels different. I think that's part of why I dislike Redemption in general, apart from it maybe not being fair and it bringing people into the game who realistically probably can't win. But in terms of narrative, it really disrupts people's stories and instead of getting clean deaths, they're forced to linger in this state where they are most likely eliminated but it isn't 100% confirmed. Like instead of Frog finally getting taken out in a dramatic climax...he got taken out and then did nothing on the Edge for a couple rounds before going home anway. It's not as satisfying from a narrative perspective.

It's not as satisfying from a narrative perspective. Players DO have the option of leaving the Edge at any time and moving straight to the jury. But yeah, thematically if any game was going to have an Edge of Extinction then it's gonna be the animal-themed one. Honestly considering the Extinct/Endangered thing I'm surprised more players haven't figured it out yet.

It is clever with the theme, I do give it that. But yeah no one is going to quit unless they are Sandra Diaz-Twine. And honestly ELO is a nonzero part of why lol

And honestly ELO is a nonzero part of why lol For me, forget the ELO, it's simply that as long as there's that chance to get back in, or even improve my place, I'm going to take it because I'm a competitor. But at the same time I resent being given that chance in the first place, for the reason you gave before, where I feel captive lingering in this purgatory and investing this time when I'm already most likely eliminated. I have no issue with mods experimenting with different extinction mechanics, I just personally don't like it. It did work pretty well in Barely.

And you already have only like a 1/20 chance of winning when you sign up, which is a tough road to begin with, with a lot of blood sweat tears etc along the way.
Being moved into the 1/200 category and still persisting is major pain.

And honestly ELO is a nonzero part of why lol I kind of wanted them to have to do mandatory large annoying jigsaw puzzles every RL day for no reward, just "do this or you are eliminated automatically". Really get that struggle-to-survive feeling going, you know?

Honestly considering the Extinct/Endangered thing I'm surprised more players haven't figured it out yet. If I was in the game, I wouldn't have figured it out either. The prejury and jury get different titles, and if the prejury is extinct, it makes sense for the jury to be a step down from extinct.

I know I wouldn’t have caught on either because as a spec I didn’t actually realize it for a few days until somebody here posted about it, haha. But Rat’s advantage showing up in his bag should have them thinking and the note will clinch it.

i don't think i'd send the note actually
like, yeah, you maybe get to show a bond to someone, but anyways you're coming back late-game, relations have less weight there imo? (bad survivor player take here)
meanwhile, you allow them to potentially leak the info that there will be a returnee, and lose basically all surprise advantage

I think people just don't expect Edge of Extinction to be added because of how little people like it as a twist

Honestly I hope Lion survives here because if he doesn't I will feel like even more of a dick for the immunity imbroglio. I am unsure if I used the word "imbroglio" correctly but I think I did and I like the assonance.

He only got screwed into briefly thinking he'd won, which I don't believe had any repercussions.
