Hello there friends, it’s time for Algae’s updates round two! It’s clear that this will not happen every round, but I’ll do it when I get the chance! Also eliminated players will continue to be ranked, but they will not receive writeups (unless their score changes for some reason, in which case I will account for it).
1. Eagle: 9.2 (-0.3) I still really, really enjoy Eagle and their gimmick, but I’m slightly reducing their score this week just because they haven’t been confessing quite as much as I’d like, which makes it harder for me to be invested in their story. I liked their journey of wanting Elephant to go and then making the choice to settle for Chickadee and how they accounted for it, but they need to keep up their confessional or they could risk falling more.
2. Moth: 8.5 (+0.1) The more I see Moth play, the more I enjoy them. They are sooooo sooooo messy, but in the best way, and it’s just so great to go on the messy journey with them. Moth brings the drama and creates problems where there shouldn’t be any (like asking Chickadee to do well on the Fitness challenge so that they could vote them out before even having lost) and it’s very fun to watch. I hope Moth is around for a long time, because I do fear for them.
3. Elephant: 8.4 (+0.4) Elephant is so painfully new, and it really shows at some point, but I think her enthusiasm for everything is so infectious. I think she is less self-aware and knows what she’s doing less than Genet, but her effort level is much higher than Genet’s, while still being lower than it needs to be. With that said, if she can survive the Air tribe and make it to the swap, I do think she could have some longevity in this game. I really hope so, because she’s so much fun to root for. I’m glad her tribe didn’t lose here, although if she would have won the fitness challenge, maybe it would have been better if they had.
4. Genet: 8.2 (-0.4) Genet is still one of my personal favorites, although I totally recognize that she’s not active enough. I think I just appreciate her self-awareness, and today has proven that when she is actually around, she is able to charm people. At the same time, however, she failed to submit a picture for the fitness challenge, despite knowing she was very likely to be targeted. And I also learned that despite talking a big game about how she was going to suck up to Rat in confessional, she actually still only had two PMs with Rat as of today! And she plays Skype ORGs which I think are just as time-consuming, so to me there isn’t really an excuse at this point. Yes, she’s new to the forum, but I just want her to put in the effort, which it seems she did today. I really enjoy her, but I want her to care.
5. Lion: 8.1 (+0.6) I love Lion! They are so much fun, and I was cheering for them as they fought to get Grizzly out. Their commentary on the other players through their dossiers and the information they provide us as viewers is so valuable, and really needed on the enormous Land tribe with so few strong confessionalists. I think they’re a good player, but they’re also fun to watch, which is a great and honestly somewhat rare combination for me.
6. Axolotl: 8.0 (-1) I feel bad dropping Axolotl this much because they have been having a rough time, seemingly both in the game and out of it, but they just aren’t confessing as much, and without their thoughts, it’s hard for me to be as invested as I once was! Their position on their tribe also seems to have declined, and I fear for them should the Water tribe attend another tribal council, which honestly is mostly their own doing. They set themselves up well, but they need to keep on top of it and maintain that level of effort, in both the game and their confessional. Sorry Polar Bear!
7. Chickadee: 7.7 By the time Chickadee was sent home, I was fully converted as a fan. Chickadee is definitely the r.obbed g.oddess of this premerge, and they deserved so, so much better. I’ve also enjoyed that they are such an active spectator, though I’m not taking that into account necessarily. It’s so rare to have such a good confessionalist go home early, so it was fun to watch Chickadee try to stay in the game and see the round of Chickadee’s elimination from their perspective. I wish they’d beaten Anglerfish, but Chickadee did more to make an impression pre-elimination than Anglerfish, so in a way Chickadee going here gave Anglerfish a chance to have their moment in the sun.
8. Rat: 7.5 (+1) Rat is growing on me a lot! They are one of the funniest players in the game in my opinion, and I just enjoy their presence on the Land tribe. Lion and Rat to me are the stars of the show on this tribe, and I have a lot of hope that both are capable enough players to stick around for a long time. Rat’s journey of going from strongly preferring Genet gone to wanting to save Genet was the most exciting moment of this round so far, and I hope that Rat will continue to deliver the excitement as the game moves forward.
9. Frog 7.1 (+1.3) Frog has grown on me a lot! Their spamming was hilarious to me. And their sadness for Anglerfish, but ultimate decision to cut Anglerfish was extremely compelling. And then their failure at the challenge this round was also hilarious after they had put so much effort trying and failing to upset others. I think Frog is a fun character and I’m enjoying them being in the game, even though they definitely get in their own way at times and aren’t necessarily a fantastic player. It looks like they will be getting voted out this round, but thankfully they will probably remain in the game, and I’m excited to see how a frog does in the sky if they do!
10. Cat: 6.5 (+4) I gave Cat an extremely low rating last round as a joke, but I do enjoy them, and this is where they belong. Their relationship with T4 is funny even if it does make me jealous, and they’re thoughts are always engaging and interesting to read when we get them. I’d be okay with Cat making it far into this game, but they aren’t a standout character for me at this point.
11. Sloth: 6.2 (-1) I still like Sloth for the reasons I previously stated, but they have not been confessing nearly enough, and also apparently have been going days without messaging some players which isn’t great either. They seem like they have potential, but I don’t know if being on a huge winning tribe with such easy boots lined up ahead of them has made them slightly complacent. I hope we get to see Sloth’s full potential this game.
12. Kestrel: 6.1 (+0.2) I honestly think I had Kestrel slightly too low to begin with, so this rating is partially to compensate for that, but they also haven’t really been confessing that much and it’s unfortunate. They seem like a central figure on the air tribe and I enjoy their thoughts when we get them. They were the third person in the Chickadee-Elephant-Kestrel alliance, but they seem to have managed to pivot away very easily, which I think is entertaining, but we didn’t get much about Kestrel involvement in that group from Kestrel themselves. It’s hard to root for someone when key parts of their story come to you second-hand.
13. Flapjack Octopus: 6.0 (+2.4) This is one of the bigger increases on this list, and honestly, Flapjack Octopus deserves it. While not a favorite necessarily, I definitely have come to appreciate them in a way I didn’t when I first ranked the players. Also they made flapjacks! I would be a fool not to increase them. Maybe I’ve increased them too much, but eh, I probably put them too low to begin with. I’m happy with where they are on this list for now.
14. Leopard Seal: 5.8 (-0.7) My favorite thing about Leopard Seal was their relationship with Axolotl, but now Leopard Seal has been distancing themselves from Axolotl, so not really sure what they have going on. They said that Anglerfish’s description of them in public made it seem like they were “just there”, and that’s kind of how I’m starting to feel about Leopard Seal. I like them when I think about them, but I haven’t been thinking about Leopard Seal all that often.
15. Bunny: 5.7 (-0.3) All of my previous thoughts about Bunny still apply, but they’ve hardly used their confessional since then. I do like them, but as with a lot of the Land tribe, they’re just kind of there at this point for me. I need more or they will continue to fall.
16. Anglerfish: 5.6 (+1.1) This a huge boost for Anglerfish, driven almost entirely by their public callout post. I just enjoy the drama and I was so happy to see it, especially once Anglerfish told us that he’d intentionally done it in order to try to be interesting for us. We have to stan that. Other than that, Anglerfish doesn’t have much going on admittedly, but I’m rooting for him to survive long enough to be reunited from Axolotl. That’s really all I need from Anglerfish at this point.
17. Hedgehog: 5.5 (unchanged) My thoughts about Hedgehog are unchanged. She hasn’t become a better confessionalist, but I still do enjoy her. My patience is wearing thin, but she’s so sweet and bubbly that I have to root for her anyway.
18. Shark: 5.3 (final)
19. Mongoose: 5 (+0.3) I’m still not a Mongoose fan per se, but I do get the appeal of them. They just kind of aren’t it for me, and also they were fighting to kill Genet this round which wasn’t what I wanted to have happen. So overall, I do somewhat appreciate what they bring to the game and they occasionally make me smile, but I think they might just be someone I’m not going to especially root for and that’s okay.
20. Snowy Owl: 4.9 (+2.7) I still am rooting against Snowy Owl, but I am starting to appreciate having an active confessionalist in a game where I’m not getting enough from a lot of players, so that’s giving Snowl a boost, and I could see myself increasing on them even more as the game goes on. Sometimes I just latch on to a player to root against without any real basis, and Snowl has slightly bothered me in some ways, but my initial dislike for them was definitely out of proportion to anything they’d actually done.
21. Dog: 4.5 (-1.2) Dog seems to be in a slightly better place on their new tribe, if only because they joined a tribe with two of the most obvious boots in the entire game on it, so I do have to give them that. But they just aren’t confessing at alllllll, and I can only put up with so much of it, especially from a player who a lot has happened to and who really should have thoughts. It’s just a bit frustrating, and it’s why I’ve dropped Dog so significantly. It’s easier for me to root for him when he is a literal underdog and getting the boot, but when he’s just kind of there, doing nothing and telling us nothing, I struggle to care.
22. Grizzly: 4 (-0.8) I honestly have a hard time ranking Grizzly because I get that they are a new player and Survivor maybe just isn’t their thing, that’s okay. But at the same time, I really haven’t been rooting for them. Part of this is because it’s been Grizzly vs Genet this whole TC, and I vastly prefer Genet and think she’s still in the process of figuring how to play on this forum, while I don’t see as much potential for growth in Grizzly. But yeah, I don’t dislike Grizzly and he’s been a fun character maybe, but I’m also ready for him to go home now. I wish him the best.
23. Butterfly: 1.5 (-1.5) I still can tell you almost nothing about Butterfly, and at this point, I’m really just ready for them to be eliminated because they are in a good spot but they are giving the viewers nothing. That’s the worst of all worlds. Butterfly needs to go.
24. Capybara: 1.3 (-0.2) I believe that Capybara has the worst confessional in the entire game. Capybara doesn’t answer my questions. And I do understand that Capybara is playing the game of Survivor and doesn’t care about entertaining us, but as a consequence of that, I’m going to root against Capybara until they are eliminated. I can tolerate bad confessionals when they come from wacky early boots, but bad confessionals from players like Butterfly and Capybara who are both seemingly strong players in good spots really make the game difficult to follow, and for that reason, they are both solidifying themselves as my two least favorite players in the game.
