My one regret is swapping to giddyup pup as everyone else was going to them, ignoring that I knew exactly why they were a bad bet. This is what I worked out over the course of everything, I only had the first and sleepy clues at the race start:

Overall thoughts...I know it's more work for the mods, but I like this as a semi-live challenge. Like done exactly the way it ended up being done here, that was fun and the mystery of how the other players did really makes me happy (honestly I think my biggest issue is being able to see the other players' votes make it very easy to screw someone by copying their bets, so just having us ONLY bet in confessional with public updates not including our bets in a live challenge is probably the optimal way, but obviously that requires us all to be around at the same time). My one qualm is that solving the cryptograms by hand is a bit difficult, but the only other source for doing cryptograms I know is like puzzel.org and that does only individual ones, so I see how that would make it hard to keep track of all the clues (since you'd need like 8 tabs of links). Also adding the 20 minutes at the start is a good idea the first time this was done it was chaos cause everyone only solved like one or two (and I solved none), perhaps 30 would be a bit better but it works perfectly fine at 20.

Okay so that took me...over an hour, because I had to listen to songs for lyrics that I am not entirely sure existed, and one of my answers was a song that I don't even think was on the list, but was referenced during the game. So yeah, 8 I'm confident on, and 2 more I don't know, and a trash time. Looks like we are going to hope our #socialgame has been enough.

White Rabbit was the right name, but I literally didn't write that one down ugh.

If you hadn't specified the artist you would have had it, but unfortunately your answer was unequivocally wrong.

Okay So General strategy is to try and keep a column for each suit (since on average you'll get 6 cards of any given suit, so barring a lot of unluck making 3-4 flushes is very possible) and going higher to lower to maximize the ability to get straights and full houses and the like. Here is the result of practice game 1: Score: Rows: 5 + 5 + 16 + 12 + 6 = 44 Columns: 10 + 1 + 10 + 10 + 10 = 41 Diagonals: 1 + 0 = 1 Total: 86 Such a strategy definitely sacrifices diagonals but I don't think that you can really...not sacrifice them without dramatically reducing score. Time for practice game 2.

Practice game 2 Score: Rows: 0 + 1 + 3 + 3 + 12 = 19 Columns: 1 + 0 + 1 + 0 + 30 = 32 Diagonals: 1 + 0 = 1 Total: 52 So this one I went for the big one, hit it, but still did worse than the first game. I only got one flush due to greed there were plenty of cards on the board to rearrange into something better. So lesson here is don't get greedy. Time for one more.

Practice game 3 Score: Rows: 0 + 6 + 5 + 0 + 3: 14 Column: 0 + 0 + 10 + 10 +10: 30 Diagonals: 16 + 0: 16 Total: 60 So it seems like my first game was the outlier, this one I think few mistakes were made but did get the 7H RIGHT after placing the Jack of clubs, lost about 3 points there, not to mention I lost a point since the queen was the last card. Still 60 as a benchmark I like, might do one last one and call it a night, then do it for real tomorrow.

Practice game 4 Score: Rows: 0 + 3 + 16 + 0 + 1 = 20 Colums: 0 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 = 40 Diagonals: 3 + 0 = 3 Score: 63 Once again, being psychic could probably make some small optimizations, but 60ish is what most score SHOULD be like. I will note I kept trying to make a row 4 straight despite it being impossible for the longest time, so I likely could have had another point had I realized that. I also need to just not go for straights, if I put the 10 of spades in the top row then I would have had a higher score, though only a point higher. Still those small changes will likely be the difference. I might try to optimize what the best possible boards are tomorrow and see how they compare to what I got.

Practice game 5 Score: Rows: 12 + 1 + 12 + 12 + 3 = 40 Columns: 1 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 = 41 Diagonals: 0 + 0 = 0 Total: 81 So I lied and I went for another...this was a god draw. Unfortunately no four of a kinds manifested, this was really good. If I had god powers I could have manifested another 9 points but like, I'm not psychic? This is a good stopping point.

Ugh, card challenges always make me nervous. You can never run multiple of them on forum (unless you prefer the great Jaipur Scandal of 18') and the optimal strategy can be beaten by getting greedy on a single round. But I'm going to try my damndest to win this and not make any big mistakes.
